Sheesh. The important lessons in life always seem so very...important. But maybe what I need to do is simply way lay these lessons for later when I'm not the prime example for my children.
Kiersley and I were having a discussion about lying the other day. When you do one thing and say another thing it's called "lying"...yada yada yada. And we get time out's for lying because it's not nice...yada yada yada.
So I was making this really yummy dessert (which will remain unnamed) the next day and Kiersley and Bear were helping me. This recipe has nuts in it, and Ben despises nuts - anything nutty - which I'm sure it's 100% psychological because if he doesn't know there's nuts in something he will eat it up with no problem. Sooooo anyway, as we poured the nuts into the mix, I whispered to K "don't tell Daddy there's nuts in this!"
The instant I said it and saw her eyes calculating, I realized my mistake. (But is it REALLY a lie when I'm doing it for his own good???) I quickly back stepped and said "uh, ummm, uh I mean TELL DADDY! Tell Daddy about the nuts!!!" That's what's called over-correcting.
She never did tell Ben. And he still doesn't know.
Do you think she learned the lesson?
Or the real question is...do you think I learned MY lesson? I guess not, because he still doesn't know about the nuts.

You learn to grind them small, toast them if need be-from someone who doesn't care for nuts much-unless they are ground small preferably toasted :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think "not telling" is lying. Just don't say it's a "surprise". The other thing is, don't EVER say "don't tell daddy" out loud! lol
Kiersley cracks me up and it makes me laugh even harder that we all need to watch what we say around her!
ReplyDeleteThis is so hilarious. Perhaps I will tell Ben.... =) Is it really honest to keep this from him? Tee! Hee!
